How public holidays work in the UAE.
The same days for every sector
Private companies and government offices get the same public holidays. The Cabinet sets them, and MOHRE announces each one for the private sector.
Islamic holidays follow the moon
Eid and the other Islamic holidays are confirmed a few days before, once the moon is sighted. Eid al-Fitr runs from 29 Ramadan to 3 Shawwal.
Some holidays move to the weekend
The Cabinet can move a holiday to the start or end of the week. In 2026, Islamic New Year moved to a Monday and the Prophet's Birthday to a Friday.
Working on a public holiday
Under the UAE Labour Law, someone who works on a public holiday gets another day off, or that day's pay plus at least 50% of their basic pay.
