What are you working out?
On your contract and payslip.
Housing, transport and other fixed allowances.
Calendar days of leave. A full year of service earns 30 days.
How it's worked out
- 1. Monthly wage: AED 8,000 basic + AED 4,000 allowances = AED 12,000
- 2. A day's pay: AED 12,000 ÷ 30 = AED 400.00
- 3. 30 days × AED 400.00 = AED 12,000.00
In short
In the UAE, you get 30 days of paid annual leave a year after your first year. Leave you take is paid at your full wage before it starts. Unused leave paid out when you leave is worked out on your basic salary ÷ 30.

Questions, answered.
How is leave salary calculated in the UAE?
Divide your monthly wage by 30 to get a day's pay, then multiply by the days of leave. For leave you take, the wage is your basic salary plus allowances. For unused leave paid out when you leave, it's your basic salary only.
How much leave salary do I get for 30 days?
One month's pay. On a basic salary of AED 8,000 with AED 4,000 in allowances, 30 days of leave pays AED 12,000.00. If those 30 days are unused when you leave, the payout is on basic salary only: AED 8,000.00.
When is leave salary paid in the UAE?
Before your annual leave starts. Unused leave is paid with your final settlement when you leave, which your employer must pay within 14 days of your contract ending.
How many days of annual leave do I get in the UAE?
30 days a year once you've worked a full year. Between six months and a year, you earn 2 days for each month. Public holidays are on top of your annual leave.
Is unused leave paid on basic or total salary?
On basic salary. Leave you take while employed is paid at your full wage, but leave still unused when your contract ends is worked out on your basic salary only.
Can I carry annual leave forward to next year?
Yes, up to half of your yearly leave (15 days) if your employer agrees. Your employer can't stop you taking leave for more than two years in a row.
